Just curious if anyone else has this problem

This is either your neighbor or it's you... I have no complaints living on the edge of a working farm.

Big Smo & Alexander King - My Neighbors:

EDIT: I literally typed this and walked outside to check the cheese and hear a gunshot that sounded like it came from the back field.. No doubt there's one less deer in the herd right now. Damn people can't even wait until rifle season to shoot.

ROFLMAO......I LOVE IT!!  I had heard Big before but very limited. I definately had not hear that, I may have to give him another break.....LOL

That was a great way to start the day! Thanks.

I also live on a 50x100 lot, but no HOA. Lucky for me all the neighbors are fine with it.... but I generally only fire up my smoker 1 or 2 times a month. I did scare one neighbor last Thanksgiving when I fired up my smoker at 5:00 AM. He woke up smelling smoke in his house and apparently spent 10-15 minutes looking around his house for something on fire - once he stepped outside and saw me he realized what was going on. I took him over a plate of smoked Turkey later as an apology for the rude awakening.

I can see that happening here lol.

I guess I'm overly sensitive bc the prior neighbor(@&&"$&@*+) used to complain about everything to everyone surrounding us about everything we did. Mind you we were not breaking any laws. Called the cops up on us quite a few times and the last straw was that he threatened us. We flipped the script and told him we were getting a lawyer. Well needless to say the bastard committed suicide last year. Now we have new neighbors who "seem" pretty ok. I'm once bitten twice shy.

When I turned on my weber last week I'm not sure if a passer by was complaining that the smoke smells or if in fact it was a neighbors. So right now of course I don't care and will do what do. Thanks for your comments you've made me feel better.

Fortunately I only have one neighbor within smelling distance. Unfortunately our houses are only 50 feet clear from each other. My old neighbor claimed he didn't even notice my smoker(s) running, so he wasn't bothered. He moved a week ago, and I get to meet the new neighbor tomorrow. Wish me luck!  I'll have ten lbs of pork belly in the smoker when he shows up to move in.

Smoked meat is a great house warming gift and say welcome to the neighborhood

I guess I could be considered a hypocrite under some circumstances!

I have copd and on oxy 24/7 but I still get out and use my smoker. I just stay down wind and careful not to get a lung full of smoke.

On the other hand, I have a neighbor that is a recluse and an alcoholic. We lived next door to each other for nearly 38 years. He refuses to pay for trash pick up and has a burn barrel. I have a wood shop across the alley from his barrel and he would tend to light it when ever he wanted to, that is until a few years ago I told him the ash was coming into my shop while the door was open. He got mad and told me to keep my door closed then! He knew from another incident that he may have went too far so he went into his house. He still burns but  seems to pick better times to burn,. So on one hand Im the cranky old "You kids get off my lawn" guy. Its not all as bad as that, but I do a lot of complaining about other things.   But at the same time I want you to enjoy some pleasant aroma around the neighborhood!

We live in a small town and there are ordinances for open fires but they don't get enforced, but I will get the city to enforce his burning if it becomes a nuisance again!

So far, I have had no complaints and as long as the fire and smoke are controlled I will keep on smoking!

I feel so lucky after these stories. Behind me has an old big red bullet , cross the street grills and now supplies me with all the wood I need. Two down has a oil tank cooker that he's always cooking chicken on. And my next door neighbor of 28 years who grilled 2,3 times a week moved today. Guy that bought the house has a large grill and two smokers I am told that he uses more than range. Suppose to move in this weekend , hope things go as well as the neighbors who left.
