I've been a member of the forums for several years but only drop by now and then to research some topic. My old grill rusted out a couple of years ago and my wife and I treated ourselves to a Weber 22 Kettle.

I'm interested in both grilling and smoking and plan to try a snake method with charcoal and wood chunks once it stops raining in a few days.

Is this the forum to hang out and look for info? I've read several threads on here but haven't seen a forum specifically for the Webers.

Don't limit yourself to one section of the Forum. There will be recipes, hints, tips and all sorts of information all over the Forum that will translate to kettle grilling and smoking.

I’ll say that since I stumbled onto this place about a month or so ago, my Weber Kettle Grill has gotten some serious use. Such an awesome grill and an even better place to hang out.

What model did you get ?
Just saw Premium in your sig ,,,
If you don't have the charcoal baskets , you can get them at Lowes / Home depot for about 15 bucks . They come in handy .

I bought my Weber 22 a year ago based mainly on the info presented on this site and I have not been disappointed. Very versatile, I impressed myself with almost all of my cooks on it.

I got my first 22" weber in 1977, now I'm on my third. Yesterday I had delivered a Meadow Creek SQ36, different times, a little more affluent these days. I joined this forum many years back as a sausage make who smokes my own hams and bacon. The SQ36 is my first offset, where would I possibly look on this forum to help get some insight? RAY

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I appreciate it.

I did a first cook last weekend, some pork "country ribs" (slices through a shoulder). Came out great. I've got a whole Boston Butt in the freezer, so trying that sounds good. I've done probably a dozen in my MES over the years, but I need to figure out how to do that with the snake ring method and how long I can get it to burn.

Do I need to experiment or are there numbers somewhere I can look up?

I think I can make that. Can't weld, but I have metal shears and metalworking tools. How long can you do an indirect smoke with a load of charcoal and wood chunks in that?

Welcome to the site, glad to have ya join up. I use my kettles more then I use my WSM for smoking.

I did my first test smoke using the snake method yesterday. I wanted to see how long a quarter of the distance around would last and it came out a little over three hours. I can see getting three of those but not much more, to keep the ends from touching each other. I took this right after putting the four starting coals on the left end.

I didn't know how long it would last, but I figured more like four hours, so I did a fatty. Came out fine. The temperature spent that time between 220 and 240. All in all, it's pretty easy.

I can more easily see the advantages of the divider like the Slow 'N Sear or the home made versions. At one point, I needed to poke the coals to keep them burning and that's easier with one of those than this method. Or maybe the plain charcoal basket method that chopsaw mentioned.

I'm trying to figure out what the "must have" accessories are and I'm thinking it looks like something like those two or a Vortex. Maybe both?
