It's been awhile, but it was just me and my wife for supper. I've been really busy with fishing and many days I just don't feel like cooking. No one coming to eat, hungry as heck, and not sure what to do. Didn't feel like driving to a grocery store so I looked around to see what I had here. Vac sealed ribeye in the freezer, about a half head of red cabbage, and a few small gold potatoes. A plan was hatched.

Put the steak in water to thaw. Had some bacon so braised cabbage with bacon and a few other ingredients from a recipe I found online was in order and smashed potatoes...

Seasoned with some Kinder's...

Cooked over some lump with a couple of oak splits...

Cut up 3 slices of homemade bacon into pieces and browned until crispy. Sliced an onion thin along with the cabbage. That was sauteed in the bacon grease, added maybe a cup or 2 of unsalted chicken broth, couple of TSPs of ACV, a TBS of stone ground mustard, put the lid on and let it roll for maybe 30 minutes. Seasoned to taste with salt and pepper...

Really simple meal that didn't take long to prepare. Not many nights we don't have many of our zoo here and I missed them, but just the 2 of us was a nice break...

Love what you did with the cabbage and the smashed potatoes. With a well seasoned and grilled steak. Wow........... Good job. Glad you enjoyed your "night off".
