Anybody ever use it? I tried some this weekend and didn't really care for it, thought it was a bit strong, might be alright if you cut it with some hickory or something else, just my opinion. I think I like apple much better!

Nope, sorry, never tried it. Today was the first time I use hickory (wow) was great.

Never tried the wood chips, but I am looking to buy a whole whiskey barrel to make my very own barrel smoker. I have seen plans for them they look pretty cool and crank out some good Q from what I hear.

i tried them, they are veryyyyy strong.. no need to add as much as you would another wood.. you could without a doubt taste the JD flavor

was it the whiskey flavor that was too much , or the smoke flavor ? i have heard of these and was kinda wanting to try them ?

Can't really describe it, it seemed heavy? I think maybe from bein soaked in the whiskey, going to give em a try again, just gonna mix in some other wood to help tame it down a bit I think. God awfull expensive, so I wouldn't use um all the time!

I have seen them at walmart and I thought about trying them but I thought they were alittle to damn expensive...... Maybe one of these days I will try them out.....

so they could be infact a meat specific type smoke.....perhap's better on the shorter smokes , as not to overpower ?

Yup, I think shorter would be better with these. Was lookin forward to them, but glad I didn't do anything real long with them. Not bad mouthin em or nothin, just wasn't what I was hoping for. Still got some left, so will try a bit more experimentin before I give up alltogether.

What meat did you smoke with it? With it being oak, I think it would be best used with beef.

a real dominant JD flavor not oak, when you open the bag you can smell jack daniels..lol

i used mine on brats and chicken, good flavor for me just have to use not so much for not so long

i got mine on deal for $1.25 a bag at the end of last year bbq season

I have some I purchased a while back. perhaps it would well for some salmon I plan on smoking this week?

I was wondering..since fire has a way of changing things chemically- if he was not getting burned sugars and such.

Daniels does sponsor a rather big BBQ contest- it would seem they know SOMETHING. But those barrels ARE oak. And I THINK they are charred inside, charcoal being a good absorbant for stuff they don't want in the whisky and a colorant. What changes in them I can't say.
