Hey all, since my wreck last August I have just felt I’ve been existing. I used to think if someone had a concussion… rub some dirt on it and move on… old country boy mentality.

Come to find out, concussions are real and take time to heal. I have been seriously humbled realizing what they can do. They are no joke… and again are very humbling.

I haven’t felt up to smoking or cooking much lately. But my kids wanted some ribs and asked me to smoke them. Only one pic as I am just getting back in the swing of things.

Some spares with John’s seasoning. It’s a local seasoning out of Arco, ID. Very small town here in SE ID and a tasty seasoning.

I will note, done these from the freezer and seasoned mid smoke. They tasted great!

We enjoyed and the wife and kids loved them… I will call that a win any day.

Just a small note. I am a Dallas Cowboy fan since I was 4 years old.

Back before Jerry ruined the Boys… and continues to do so…

There is a documentary, and I haven’t watched it fully yet. Just seen Troy Aikmen segment.

He got a concussion in a playoff game back in the mid 90’s. Then played in the playoff game the next week.

He kept asking people about the game… over and over. How it went! Someone on staff took a VHS tape and labeled it The Game You Keep Asking About.

He said, it was so weird watching myself play in that game… I don’t remember going to the stadium, I don’t remember even playing that game. I remember nothing… He did say, I actually played pretty good!

But he again emphasized he had no recollection of even playing. Concussions are no joke.

Anyway, I am still getting back to me… enjoyed smoking again.

Thanks for sticking with me… my SMF fam is amazing!

If not for yourself then the grandkids.

I've had two major concussions and many broken bones to go along with the accidents that caused them and to be honest at my age I'm terrified for what the near future holds for me as a result of those accidents.

Justin, you're ribs look amazing!
Hope you continue to mend!

But from another redneck brother... NORMAL for us is not what it used to be... and maybe never was! :emoji_blush:
Don't feel bad about not smoking much... can't remember the last time I smoked something.

I had 2 big ones myself long before the days when they figured out the near term recovery regiment and realized the long term results from repeated concussion.

You're right about that. I have friend who slipped on some ice at Thanksgiving, got a concussion and she's still not w/o pain. Also can't be around noise or bright lighting, either.

Hey Justin! Those ribs look incredible! Hang in there Brother! I know it’s a painful journey, and a tough year, but you will break through. Keep focused on the small victories, like these ribs!

Well Norm, you just hit me with some reality I never thought of. Thank you!

I will keep pushing on. You do the same buddy.

So, I hate taking Rx meds… with the help of my better half have looked into and taking some supplements that I think are helping me gain a bit of clarity back. Be willing to share if you would like. I wish the best for you Norm as concussions are nothing to take lightly.

Thanks my friend, and each day I just hope to make a bit of progress… appreciate the comment and like.

I hope you are healing up, that was sure a nasty accident that happened to you.

And honestly, not sure I’ve ever been “normal”. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

Thanks, and I sure will.

I hope you are well, having just been thru one… I can’t imagine two. I personally think they are underrated as to what they can do to someone… just my opinion.

I could pull a Houdini on those ribs Justin!
Glad you feeling better and here's a great clip of Bo Jackson explaining a concussion.

Thanks Keith, they were a tasty meal. I will say again and again I thought concussions were just a no big deal:.. again old country boy mentality of rub some dirt on it…

As I said here, I’ve been humbled. Appreciate the vid… Bo was one of the best athletes I’ve ever seen. And to talk about that is awesome. I get the humor as if you don’t have that… your life is empty…

But as not remembering things… there’s been times I’ve said things to my sweet Nic half a dozen times and don’t recall the first five. She says politely, Hon… you already told me that. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Oh I'm sure the memory is the worst part of it all and thank the Lord you have Nic to help with your recovery!
Keep moving forward brother and prayers!
