Does anybody have a fast way to coarse-grind peppercorns? I have a pepper mill for table use, but I can't see using that to grind pepper by the ounce for making sausage. Would something like a Magic Bullet work?

It seems to me someone on SMF had mentioned using a cordless drill as a power source, but no details of how it would work.

Gadzooks, mulepackin beat me to it. Coffee grinder works like a champ.

I have used my Magic Bullet grinder for 4 years. It,s about done with the large amount i do.Going for a comercial grade next.

I have see guys modify their mills to adapt to their battery powered drills, easy mod and it works great! Probably wears out the grinder a little faster.

coffee grinder here too, pulse it and if you want you can sift thru screens if really want control of the size.

I have both a coffee grinder and the magic bullet - the coffee grinder works well - I just tried the bullet and it did OK not as good as the grinder but for what you are going to use the pepper for it should be fine

If a recipe calls for just a tablespoon or less of cracked black pepper, I just get out the morter and pestel and have at it. I have a pepper mill that if I really loosen the tension between the two grinding plates it does a fair job of doing a really coarse grind. When I need a lot I use the mill. I've tride coffie grinders before and the pepper ends up finer than what I prefer.

I have always used the coffee grinder. Works very well on the cheap. But, it should be noted that once used to grind spices, you will never want to use it to grind coffee beans.

I use mine mostly to grind onion flake into onion powder, which pretty much means that onion will be stuck to the thing until Christ returns.

I put the pepper corns in a zip lok bag and hit it with a CO skillet or a meat tenderizer. Works great, easy to controll the size.

All of the methods that you have been told works very well. I like the coffee grinder or the morter and pastel works for me.

I'm with the coffee grinder folks.
I keep it on my counter top since I fresh grind most all my spices when I cook from mustard to pepper to cumin seeds, the flavor of fresh ground so surpasses any powdered form.
Just be sure to clean it out every time you use it, forgot one time and the humidity in the air made it really a pain to clean out after sitting overnight.

Is there a Gordon's Supply or something like that around? They have 16oz. containers of CBP. Easy and not too expensive. Otherwise, use the bottom of a skillet(CI is better) and pour corns on counter and cover with a thin towel . Place pan over Pepper and mash the heck out of it, it is easier than it sounds. The corns tend to pop and turns out real good.
Hope I have helpedand
