Hey Ya’ll,

Just figured I’d let everyone know after getting to know a SMF member through a few common threads, and then through some private messages we have started trading homemade products between states!

TomKnollRFV TomKnollRFV was kind enough to offer to send me a jar of his pear butter, and when I returned from my bbq, and bourbon tour vacation I saw it sitting there just like he promised!

One jar of pear butter shipped to MI from Badger country!

Well I have to say I’ve been a member of this site for a while now and I’ve made many friends who I talk to all the time. Some even hang out with my family & friends now. But this is a first! Never had anyone offer to send me anything. This nice gesture needed to be returned.

In return for Tom’s pear butter I sent him out a bottle of homemade syrup, and a jar of homemade peach preserves.

I haven’t had a chance to try the pear butter yet but I’m sure it’s great! When I do I’ll try to take a few pics and update this thread.

This whole trade got me thinking.... it’d be cool if a group of people got together and did more of this. I’m sure some of you have made some similar trades. Feel free to let us know about it!

I hope to hear some good stories about somebody great items y’all have swapped!

Both sides of that trade look very tasty. I am ever amazed at the friendliness and comraderie that seems present in this forum. Enjoy that pear butter...I recall the thread. Sounds like it would be very good.

Jeff,

Yeah for sure on the friendliness of the members of this page. With people I met on this site we started a bbq gathering 6 years ago, and it blew up into a annual fattie contest at my place that had 32 entrees, and 120+ people attend last year! I’ve made lifelong friends. People who have a key to my house. It’s unreal!

Wow...big like! You are welcome to send one (or 6) this way if you are into the trading!!!!! Sounds like a fun time. Wish there was some sort of a Missouri group thing.

I'd be happy to send you a Tennessee Vols t-shirt so you don't have to wear that Michigan gear this year. In return I will accept some of that bourbon from your vacation. Too good to pass up right?

I used to host Give Away Contests on a firearms forum I frequented.
I gave away cool gear/parts to the winners.
Contests got so popular that some forum business members sent me stuff to give away, with their name prominently displayed in the contests.
Needless to say I made many friends on/off the internet.
And got sent a fair number of canned goods, salmon, jelly, chiles and more.

That website is almost defunct now due to banned imports, but man was it great while it lasted.

I did buy a pretty awesome bottle of bourbon down in Kentucky Vol. I’m gonna put up a thread on this years trip when I get a minute

I've been on some bullet bourbon lately when I want to give the beer's a rest. If you are into some good local brews I'll swap 6'ers with you sometime of something local

I’m a big fan of bulliet Rye. Great stuff!

3 years ago at the fattie contest a few of us stayed up late and about 3am there was a fight over a potato fork! Lmao! No lie, can’t make this up!

I believe an exact quote from that scuffle was “you need to take this potato fork and stab me right in the neck if you think I stole it from you!” Lmao! Strange things happen when you’ve been over served.

Yeah I’d be interested in a six pack swap for sure. I’ll have to talk to you about our local stuff and see what you can or cannot get down there.

My buddy is a brewer. He won a contest a few years back at a brewery and they served his beer for a year! He’s making a nitro ipa that i requested for the fattie contest in September. He did a torpedo clone, and a smoked wheat beer for last years fattie contest. You could really taste the smoke in that beer to!

I hope the revenuers don't catch wind of this transaction!!!! Especially those southern. True story...a couple buddies and I were headed to meet a huge Nascar party at Bristol. We were in a truck and in charge of a ton of party beverages. We got pulled over in southern Arkansas for speeding. Luckily the sheriff was a race fan, as he let us go without issuing a bootlegger ticket. Had no idea that would still be an issue these days, lol.

No kidding? That's crazy would have never thought! Love Bristol. I didn't get to go but had some buddies go up last weekend. Its always a good time. Whenever I am in Chattanooga I will go across into Georgia and pick up a couple 30 packs to take back. A 30 pack of Miller or Bud is $16-$18. A 24 pack here is $22

He said a couple would be fine. We had 12 cases plus some harder stuff, lol. Oops!!

Aww Shucks Scott, now you'll embarass me. <And I really got the better end of the deal there. My pearbutter isn't -that- good. Where as he sends me some thing worth it's weight in gold!>

I am all for the trading thing though. I know I'm going to start making pemmican and jerky before to long. Given we have members all over that isn't the worse idea. It'll be easier with winter coming up too. Less chance of spoilage etc. I'd love to try regional foods in this way...

Also I should sneak on up to Michigan for that fatty contest! I mean..how fare away can it be LOL

It was a fair deal all the way around as far as I’m concerned Tom. Thanks again!

Fattie contest Is coming up soon! Michigan isn’t that far!

I actually did the distance and time etc. It's about 8 or so hours for a drive. I mean, unless I take the ferry, which google claims shaves a few hours off, but I'm suspicious of that. <Though I have to admit the ride down the UP would sure beat cutting through Chicago!>
