Hello I have a Camp Chef Smoke Vault.  A buddy of mine said he used plywood and wrapped his on three sides to help insualte it and keep a more even temp in the smoker.  Has anyone ever heard of this or had any experience with doing that?  He left the door original so that woudl just be metal.  any ideas?

I think a better choice would be to get an insulated welders blanket. You then would have the option of removing it when it wasn't needed. Just remember to cut out holes for the vents.

Another cheap option would be to build you a wind break. Wind will suck the heat off a thin walled smoker very quickly.
