Since September we've been pretty much without a kitchen. I started a complete tear out in early Sept. On the 5th everything came to a halt because my mother had a stroke. So, we went to Arkansas to be with her. We came home on the 14th after it appeared my mom was stable and starting PT to get her mobility back. On the 18th I got word that she went into renal failure. And passed on the 20th. The kitchen still has a ways to go. But I'm going to at least smoke some cheese this weekend. I'm hoping to get the bacon started soon. And try out the Umai pepperoni kit I bought awhile back. Here are a few pics of the kitchen so far.

I've been missing you, Steve. Wondered what was up.
Very sorry to hear about your Mom.
I believe she is in a much better place.

My Mom eventually died from 3 spaced out strokes over a number of years.
Her quality of life sucked for her last 5 years.

Love the remodeled kitchen!
I think getting your head in some smoke, and a Stella or two, in some cool autumn air would be good therapy.
I'm getting ready to be Maken Bacon here. Going to jump in with both feet.

So sorry to hear about your mother Steve. It's a tough loss to come to grips with. On a side note the kitchen looks great. Use the time smoking to regain your thoughts and unwind.

Washin dishes in the bath tube ? Sometimes the best way to deal with a loss , is just to do what you like to do . That's what they would want any way .

What plans do you have to trim out the cabinets ? People look at me like I smell funny ( maybe I do ) when I tell them I put black trim on my cabinets . I have medium oak , put " bed " mold on top ( bead and cove ) 2 1/2 inch stand on top Looks like crown . Then I made the pieces for the bottom , but it's all painted black to match the darker counter tops . looks sharp .

Thanks all for the kind words. Keeping busy does help me through this.

I'm going to use crown molding that will be painted a slightly darker shade of grey to offset the wall cabinets. The base cabinets are blue. With ceramic back splash. We are still deciding on the granite counter top. Black or white will work with this. I have a sample of black with flecks of quartz like crystals in it that I like.
