(yet, that is).....

What did you all do for slicing your bacon? Any good tricks? How can I make it really even, or do you just do the best you can?

(if one of you all say you just used a knife, you're gonna get it)

Lisa , use a good sharpe knife , and cut your bacon in 1/2 if you need to , too make it easier, also putting the bacon in the freezer awhile to stiffen it up good ( not frozen ) will also make it easier to slice more evenly , hope this helps a bit .

I have never tried this but. Put it in the freezer like T-Bone said and use a board type veggie slicer. We have one and I know it will cut the end of your thumb off with ease.

Tim's right partially frozen keeps it stiff while you slice. I use the same method when cutting meat for jerky or fajitas.

But other than that......I just used a knife

Lisa, I agree with Tim, the freezer is a TREMENDOUS help, so is a very sharp knife. Now that I think about it, you should guilt Doug into buying you a meat slicer. They work great and you could slice deli thin BBQ meat for his sandwiches. Yes, thats it, its not a present for you, its for HIM.

I agree with everyone...partially freezing the bacon works well. Also using an electric knife.

Oh bubba, you are such the gentleman :)

and I will try the partially frozen idea (or I'll tell bubba about it

Check out www.cooking.com.

They have a bunch of slicers on sale and I believe free shipping this time of year.

Also, if you want low end, Cabelas has their $99 slicer on sale for $69.

I have one similar to it and it does all I ask of it as long as I don't pretend it is a bigger, badder machine.

Cheers!

Used a $3.00 garage sale Rival for years that worked fine, except you had to hold the power button down all the time; as a result I was a one handed slicer. This summer my wife picked up a Chef's Choice on sale at Fleet Farm for $49.00 if remember correctly and I think it is a great machine.

We really wanted a used professional model but they are selling above our budget for how much we actually use one.

i bought a cheap one on sale for under 80$ ay cabelas .works just fine and i figure i can where out 3 of them and still be ahead of buying a pro one.

I just bought a like new one off of Ebay for 30 bucks plus shipping. It is the Waring Pro 150. It is a good little slicer to do the smaller, easier cutting meats. But like Blackhawk says, "it is a home slicer, not a commercial one". It works great for slicing sandwich meat and Jerky, but in my opinion would not handle say, partially frozen venison loins sliced in thick strips for any long period of time. They say they have a 10 minute max. run time and the drive gear is made of a harder plastic. They are a good inexpensive slicer though if you are on a tight budget compared to the the big commercial ones.

Although I haven't done bacon yet, I use an electric knife ALOT. What got me using one was, while walking around the competition area at Dover, I noticed just about everyone using an electric knife on their briskets and ribs. So I said to myself, "Self, I gotta get me one of those!" And I did. It works great!

Huh. Well, dang it...I just can't. I pride myself on the knives in my kitchen. All good steel and all razor sharp. It's something that's been handed down in the family <Dad's side> for generations.

Matter of fact, I still remember some advice... never sharpen your in-law's knives, cause they won't be used to a sharp edge and cut themselves and blame you! He was right, too.
