No dancing, no chants, all I have to do is THINK about building a fire in the Outlaw SFB (aka The Beast) and bingo, RAIN!!!

Here I just called my favorite butcher to see if he had a few racks of pork ribs squirreled away ( his big delivery is Thursday) cause I figured I had time to give them a quick rub, and then smoke for a late-ish dinner tonight, go out to the car to go get 'em, and what the heck, rain???!!!!. It's been hot and humid for the past few days, but dry. Not like we don't need it, but STILL!!!

Really now, Mother Nature, why just when I'm ready to fire up the Beast???? Third time in the last month this has happened.

I'm still gonna Q them, I think, but if I get lazy ( or we get hail with this), there's always the oven.

So if you're having a drought, just call me and I'll light a BBQ.

Jeez.

Cinderella, Have you not offered a gift to the Smoke Gods?

You must ,now and then, offer your reverance to the God of Smoke. Have you never cooked in the rain or gotten so cold doing that special Holiday Turkey or Ham?

You need to go out to the Smoker and do a meal in inclement weather and promise the Big Smoker in the Sky, you will be vigalent and stand through any weather to Annoint yourself with Dedication to your pit; be it a rain cook, severe weather cook(an unseen event that catches you off guard),or on the hottest day of the year-sweating like nobody's business and  needing another drink but can't find any

Oh, but I see you live in Pa. and unless you are a Native, you would not know this:I'm not native either, but I lived in the Southwest long enough to have heard the stories of the Natives from my Indian friends.

Easily cured,an all nighter with no sleep,no enjoyable refreshments or giving up the cook to put it in the "OVEN" because you can not go the whole trip.

Now , if you are handicapped, simply leave some scraps of your most recent cook on the top of your smokestack.

Hope this enlightens you and you have a fun Summer;and remember to...

Cinder,

That little rain should be past you by now, and no more rain for days!!!

Smok'em if you got 'em!!!

Bear

It's past, thanks,@ Bear. And I'll get the ribs on soon. I draw the line on thunderstorms, though, since two years ago my next door neighbor was hit by lightening in my yard (we're on the top of a hill). Wasn't pretty. He survived, though, and has a nasty scar on his shoulder.

Good suggestions! I haven't done an all-nighter since last year, and sadly my smoking buddy, my son-in-law, died last Wednesday from brain cancer. I may have to do one soon in his honor, But I can't drink as much beer as he could and not fall asleep on a chaise lounge.

A gift to the Smoke Gods? Do they like Wild Turkey?? Or peat-smoked Scotch??? There's never any meat left.

Well, there you go. After my whining and complaining, guess who got an emergency call in to work? So the ribs are still in the fridge. But at least I got them skinned and rubbed, and now I don't know when they're gonna get into that smoker since my normal work schedule for the weekend is whacked out. I'm trying to remember why I like working in retail...
