ok. so I'm at the local grocerie store tonight after work. and I see that they have young butterball turkeys average 10 to 12 lbs for 1.29$ and pork butt for 1.49$. now normal price in canada for a butterball is 2.49 a lb. anyway I bought 6 turkeys at about 10 lbs each and 3 roasts at about 6 lbs each. so far so good I'm thinking.

then I get home and tell the wifie how great a deal I just got on turkeys for my smoker, she explains that she had just done groceries and our freezer is full. no problem I say it's winter out there I'll just put the birds in the shed and smoke them during the christmas vacation. we'll have some turkey for newyears.

then I told her I couldn't help myself it's all them smoker forum ideas I get in my head and just can't help myself lol

I have the same MONKEY on my back too. I was worried about making it through the cold winter, but then I built the Stinky shack,so I don't care what the weather does now, as long as I can get to the store for booze!

Monkey here also, actually both my wife and I have a hard time walking past the meat counters at our local Winn Dixie and Hitchcocks. they just had butts on sale for .99 cents a lb. I knew I had no room to put one in the freezer due to recent fishing. So we bought one and smoked it for a party we went too. Problem solved.

Someone once said something similar to this and I crack up each time I think about the scenario...

Next time you buy that much stuff just confidently stride into the house to where your spouse is sitting. Walk straight up to him or her and slam what you bought straight down in front of them. Then with jubiliation in your voice say "Can you believe I picked all this up for under $300!"

Then walk away...don't make eye contact and don't look back! Just walk away!

I like that approach AJ, my wife half cringes every time I say "I think it's about time for another trip to the butcher shop". She always forgets all about it when the food starts coming off the smoker though!

Turn your back??? TURN YOUR BACK??? I'd get a frying pan to the skull if tried that. Of course, I'm pretty lucky. I have the missus trained in what to look for in brisket, pork shoulders, and steaks. I rarely have to (get to?) go to the grocery store and our freezer is pretty full most of the time.

Suuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre! Blame us innocent posters. Easy for you to say. We're sitting ducks.
Then, should you happen to attend the '08 SMF Gathering, you casually introduce your spouse to a fellow member and all h*** breaks loose! She's on him/her like a chicken on a junebug. "You're the one who ....................."
Uh huh.

In Mike's case it will be "You're the one who made us drive half way across America's armpit to come to this little gathering thing!??"

Maybe you should organize the event but skip it this year Mike!
