ill tell ya the code brother. scout mid day and look for feathers and crap all over the forest floor. you have found the roost! your bird is almost dead already! quietly set up before light within 75-100yrds from the roost. when enough light comes tom will see your decoy over there and fly down to his doom. its as simple as a few clucks and beating your ballcap on your leg to sound like one flying down. i do it every opening morning like that. lol if they dont roost somewhere else youll have your tom! easy as that.
Yep that works if they roost in the same place everytime. Those western ND birds are tough to pin down on roosts from my experience or at least where they do roost can be a real challenge just to get on the same ridge or below them. Twice I thought we had the perfect morning plan and they hit the ground gobbled and drummed then went the opposite way.
Even around home I've tried it with very limited shot opportunity and the birds around our area in all theory shouldn't get much pressure. I do think we have people calling from the road next to the pickup and after a while they hear the same box call and pot call sounds and sequence that they just aren't interested

wood lots and large fields here. they seem pretty much on a routine unless spooked during the day.

Co worker and friends first turkey.
Nice! A buddy 's 15yr old daughter just got her first turkey last night, guess it was quite the exciting evening and shot opportunity.
11yr old daughter and I are sitting in blind right now. Got 1 Tom gobbling but going the opposite direction and a couple Jake's that were feeding their way to use.
As I was typing the above the Jake's came in and daughter let the 410 rip at 20yds for her first turkey.

After getting back to the house, cleaned the birds and headd to a different blind location with 14yr old daughter. Currently listening to a rooster pheasant and a Tom turkey go back and forth

Congrats to the young hunter, she's hooked now .😊

Turkey Update!
Older daughter punched her tag as the wind started picking up and rain starting to show up. The 2 Jake's that were with the one her sister shot earlier from a different blind came walking in to check things out so now there is a Jake short his friends, if I had a tag I could have easily shot him and dropped his body on his buddy. Daughters second turkey, 1st male. Still got lots of Tom's around our area and a couple more weeks of season.

First off, you’ve some beautiful daughters…. Congrats to the young ladies… so awesome to see the young ones out and about. Those are some nice birds.

Crazy day trout fishing. 3 hours of not even a sniff and then the trout truck shows up and dumps 300 rainbows right front of me. After a 1/2 hour they settled in and what ensued couldn't be called fishing just straight up catching. Sucks I left my phone in the bed of the truck when suiting up.

Found a turkey that was dummer than me- this is how I utilized it…..

IMG_7420.jpeg

Plucked the breast and saved it along with the drums and thighs.
Legs and thighs went in crock to cook down for sammiches

IMG_7423.jpeg

Both breasts were brined.
One breast was fried into nuggets
IMG_7422.jpeg

The other was seasoned and then wrapped in the skin then done on the pellet smoker

Now I need another turkey….

Congrats and thanks for sharing. While traveling for work on Monday I was thinking about doing something similar with the skin next time one if us gets a turkey.
