@chilerelleno , John once that is mounted I’d love to see it. Also, and you may have something planned… so not to interfere if you do. But on a couple firsts here. Bought a shadow box to display by the euro mounts. Kinda memory keeper if you will. I’ll share an example of my son Pete’s first Muley deer.

I also after this pic printed out some Muley track prints and put on the right side of the tag. That was an after thought. Anyway, just a suggestion my friend and again Congrats to Chili Jr. That’s a nice one!

I started a new rabbit hole hobby this winter!
I’m tying trout flys or attempting to😂
I’ve been watching YouTube videos for the last 2 months. It’s very intriguing work tying materials to a small hook but it very rewarding and I’m getting better and faster with each one.
I can’t wait till Spring gets here to try them out.

That is so awesome, looks like you definitely have the talent to do that. I’d sure like to get into this when life slows down a bit… but with two teens… life gets a bit busy.

Thanks for sharing… and those flies are top notch! Very well done!

My folks got me a fly tying kit when I was about 11 years old along with a fly tying book. I started tying flies within an hour or so. It wasn't anything close to a professional kit in the least, but something you'd get a kid. It was pretty tough with that kit and being a kid but I did make progress. Some of the flies I tied sure looked a lot like the ones in the book

I caught my first fish around 4 or 5 years old on my dad's fly rod. Fished small creeks and beaver ponds on the western slope of Colorado. When I caught my a brookie out of a beaver pond on a fly I tied, I had a weird moment. I was very excited to have caught my first fish on a fly I tied, but I also realized my flies weren't even close to the ones I bought out of any store. That lead me to believe that brookies aren't very smart and I quit tying flies after that.

I still fly fish and thought I might get back into tying them over the years, but now days my eyes aren't nearly as good as they used to be and my hands are in fairly bad shape due to working with them, and bashing them repeatedly, over the years. I even have problems just tying a fly on to the line unless I have my readers on.

But good on you for starting it up, and by your pictures you have a talent for it for sure! I buy my flies for a few locals who tie, and they are very good and more than happy to make a few bucks on the side. They all tie flies for the local waters around where we live with is a perfect situation for me. As for my hands, they still get bashed up now and then as I still do all the maintenance and repairs on our vehicle, cut down trees, cut them to size and split the logs for firewood every year. Also included, any fixes needed in and around the house.

@Ishi the flys look great! Now you need to save all the deer tails and duck feathers.

I’m not allowing myself to go down that rabbit hole - traditional archery , muzzloaders, waterfowl and the guitars/ mandolin not to mention wife and dogs…..

Brother-In-Law came out to do some fishing over the weekend, hit 2 different lakes. First lake was mostly perch with a few decent LM Bass and some dandy Gills. Perch are around 9-10", Bass were in the 12-14in range. The Sunny's/Bluegill's we caught were 8-9in but all those went back beings that lake doesn't seem to have the numbers from years past.

Yesterday went out for a few hours in the afternoon at a different lake and got a few crappie, smaller perch and some sunnies, the small sunny wouldn't release well so just kept it. BIL couldn't understand why I keep gills out of one place but not another, walleye snobs are very difficult to explain things to by the way and don't even mention catching fish with plastics or not using live bait.

I told mysef. YOU ARE NOT going to buy more gear to keep at the campground. Yeah, that didn't happen!
I like the KastKing gear. And I like the color orange. So, now I have another bait caster.

Got the Lethal Blaze 7'4" medium/fast action rod to go with it. Ann saw the long box getting delivered ......she knew!

That's a very thoughtful valentine's gift for you!

This was taken a week or so when some ground opened up. About ten deer in all, four bucks and 6 or so does and fawns. The buck on the left was a shooter for sure. If you can zoom in his rack is over 24 inches tall but terribly wide. 4 point with a kicker on the right side. Nice deep forks except the front right. 275-300 lbs. The other bucks were just youngsters. This was on the side of the house about 15 yards outside the window.

Nice,
My wife and MIL would just go out of their minds haveing that in the back yard.
Mona is like Ellie May , she would try to make pets out of them...

We had a small doe coming in the yard and eating all my flowers ( especially Tulips ) after I mentioned it to her , I came home the next day and she had apples out there for it .... OMG

We call that marinating! :emoji_blush:

if I cared for venison more , I would have made it a nice cosy bed in my freezer....

David
We already have two from last fall in there. I am either going to have to by another freezer or replace the chest freezer with a bigger one. We have the chest and a smallish standing freezer right now. Both are full of venison, pork butts, sausage, dog food, fish, and miscellaneous other goods. Even have a garage fridge with smoked cheese in the fridge part and more fish in the freezer.

Your reel handle is on the wrong side. 😁

40-50 degrees and sunny this weekend and had my 40hrs in at work, they want us to manage out OT so figured it was a good day to hit the ice and poke around more on an area I have done well on. Didn't move much like I planned because catching was too good to leave. Hit the ice at 8:30am and left about 1:30, spent a good chunk catch and release as I got my limits in a couple hours. The small LM bass wouldn't release because when I dropped him to the hole his head hit the side and brained it, played belly up for quite a while

Saturday was awesome and plan was to take the kids out but they had plans come up to do stuff with cousins so went out to see what afternoon and into evening bite was like. Fished same area but did punch a few extra holes. Got into mostly crappie and more big fish this time. Switched lures and colors quite a bit just to see what all I could catch on. Mostly small tungsten spoons, different tungsten jigs were best tipped with either a plastic, wax worm or spikes but got good action on plain jigging rap styles and rippin rap

Getting to be time to either go try a different lake or start exploring different areas on this one.
