Didn’t know there was a contest or I’d have posted my doe back in September! Here she is anyway…..

Didn’t have in mind to take a pronghorn doe, but my days were getting limited… and my pride I set aside years ago. My intention with hunting is meat in the freezer. If some horns come along with it…. great! But my intent again is meat. Also, since the wreck I was in… I have not been myself and my energy level is just not what it used to be.

That being said, this was a muzzleloader hunt. Seen some awesome bucks, trophy type… but some dipshit at the exact time I had a shot was in the way… we hunt remote and hardly ever see anyone. Well, just my luck… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Anyway, very thankful for the meat. I will show my doe and one of the bucks I was after.

I do always take a few minutes and thank the animal for providing some meat for my fam. I do believe it’s an important part of respect for the animal.

And one of the buck I had my eye on… maybe next year if I can draw again.

I'm with you brother meat in the freezer!
And congrats on the harvest!
Never seen a pronghorn so what's the est weight on that one ? What's their main diet source?

Keith

Keith, thanks bud. When we dragged her out, I’d say she was 175ish before gutting.

Most Pronghorn around here are desert dwellers! So maybe not the tastiest meat?!

I have permission on some private land and they eat the hay fields…

Congrats Justin like Keith I've never seen one in person. I also agree with you on them horns they don't taste good so I'm after meat

Years ago, I was in a steep ravine with my eye on what might have been a trophy mule deer that was slightly farther up the hill. He walked into a stand of tall bushes, and I had my scope trained on where he would likely exit. Unbeknownst to me, there was some yahoo farther up the ravine who spotted both the deer and me aiming for it. So he took a shot before I could get a chance. I went, "Oh, well." and walked up there to see if he needed some help getting it out. But of course he missed, and the deer disappeared into the ether. He admitted to me that he saw that I was about to fire, and took a wild shot into the stand. Didn't even have a clear shot.
I got down off the hill after that. Don't need to be around idiots like that with guns.

Rifle season opens this coming Friday. Both daughters have their whitetail doe tags, the older daughter (3rd tag) is taking her 6.5 Grendel and the younger daughter (first tag) want's to take my 257 Wby Mag. Yes the 257 is overkill especially beings I will try to keep shots 100yds but they do seem to shoot well out to 175. I got one spot that is in the trees so then I might not use the 257 because shots will likely be 50-60yds. Either way fingers crossed for some decent weather

Congrats on the meat for the freezer, that is a fine looking doe!

So adding my part. Just finished up my yearly meat hunt. Long & short of it. I took 2 does, my brother took 1 spike and 1 doe. I caught 5 catfish all well over 5 pounds. My brother caught 2 catfish same sizes.

We had a blast and I posted about it with tons of pics here so not to take up too much space in this thread. I look forward to seeing what everyone gets as the season opens up more!
