Caught a pair of otters on a trail-cam visiting our lake. Got one of them ... one more to go. This one was a bit smaller, 20 pounds.

All otters and beavers must die! So destructive.

Trapping Tally - Feb 1 through Today
11 raccoons
4 possums
0 skunks (yay!)
1 beaver
3 otters

Raccoons, possums and skunks are nest predators for ground nesting birds (turkey, quail). Studies show they eat about 60%-70% of all ground nest eggs.

I have 3 more weekends for trapping nest predators. I need 11 more critters to tie the my record and 12 more to beat it.
uuuummmm uumm smoked otter sausages!

I've been out 5 times this year on the boat thus far. Yes, ice off up this high is kinda of later than most places. Anyways, the first time out in Apr I had my buddy with me. Skunked. I accused him of being a jinx. Next two times I was by myself. Filled my limit both times. Convinced my wife to go out with me the forth time with our dog. Skunked. The last time I went out by myself and caught my limit. Accused my wife and dog as being jinxes.

Then I thought about it. Maybe my wife OR the dog is the jinx. Trying to convince my wife to go out again without the dog. She won't do it. Guess the next time I go out I'll bring the dog. He'll be happy to go. I just hope he is not the jinx.

Oh, fishing for trout, and any pike I catch the dog gets them for breakfast. Sorry, no pics, but the trout have been 12-17 inches. Perfect eating size and pink to red meat.

This is what I caught yesterday off Orient point, NY yesterday. The one I am holding was at least 30Lbs and had to be returned to the water. Current NYS regs are keepers from 28" - 31" all below or over need to be returned. normanaj normanaj what are the regs up by you this year?

Same. To be honest I don't keep stripers as I really don't find to be all that great.

The bluefish have been all but non-existent so nothing on the smoker as of yet. Hoping the Fall run action is better.

There was a big poaching bust in Westport a few weeks back. Scup and Black Sea Bass.

The boat was very diligent about proper sizing of everything we caught. We boated one decent size blue for the day.
