My step-daughter and 2 year old grandson, Orion, live in Calgary. Unfortunately, Calgary has over 70% of all the Covid cases and deaths in Alberta. So Miss Linda and I figured it would be a lot safer for him to stay with us up in the bush for the duration of the pandemic. We moved him up to Drayton Valley a couple of weeks ago. We're really enjoying having him live with us, but I'm just not sure if this old man will survive having a full-of-piss and vinegar young'un around for a couple of months.

On Monday, I took him out into our front yard to go tobogganing down the pile of snow between the yard and the driveway. No toboggan, so I used the lid off a spare cat litter box. Yep it was thoroughly washed up. :emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing: A few time lifting him and his "toboggan" up to the top of the hill was more than enough for me, so after that I just lifted him up and let him slide down on his back. He loved it!!!

Miss Linda took the first 2 picture, and they'll give you an idea of how much snow we still had and just how tall that pile was. The depth of the snow on the lawn was close to 20 inches.

Yesterday, Orion and I were outside playing. I took him back into the front yard and posed him in front of the same snow bank. That's pic #3. I couldn't believe how much that snow bank had shrunk in just 5 days. As you can see, there's no snow left on the lawn either--but there are a couple of small lakes that the ducks swim in every spring.

Quite the difference in just 5 days, huh??

While we were out yesterday, he discovered the joy of splashing through all the new puddles. Really enjoyed watching him--right up to the moment he fell flat on his bum in the deepest puddle in the back yard. Completely soaked him to the skin. Seems this youngest generation ain't very tough. He actually wanted to go inside and get some dry clothes on. Go figure. LOL

Any how, This sudden change in weather sure makes taking him outside and lot more fun (for me).

Thanks for looking.

That little guy looks pretty darned happy there Gary, you're doing a fine job caring for him. Remember, what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger, maybe! RAY

Enjoy Gary while your strength holds up. Love the photos, especially the smiling face and the snow. We watch our two grandsons periodically for a week or two; a 5 yo and a 2 yo. They can sure wear you out. One would think they would take their daily naps and go to bed at night on schedule like they do at home. Not so. Those two boys don't think we old folks have rules. Total fun and exhaustion.

Thanks Ray, he's generally a happy kid.
I've always worked on the idea that----what doesn't kill me better run. LOL

Like the name. From another one.
Small world. I've never known anyone but the grandson named Orion.

Looks like it was a good time had by all Gary.

Beautiful child, Gary. It's wonderful that you could be there for him in these times.
Definitely memories for you and hopefully or him!

OK, just looking at those pics of snow makes me stop grumbling about the weather here in Indiana...

He was sure enjoying the sliding that day. But I'm starting to wonder if my back is going to survive the next couple of months.
He generally starts to power out about 7:30 PM. So he snuggles up with me and after about 15 minutes of rocking, he's out for the night.

Nice thread Gary . Days like that stick with the young ones . Shapes who they become .

Yeah ,,,, but I'm starting to think , maybe they're smarter . LOL.

Gary way to make memories with your grandson.

Amazing amount of work looking after a 2 year old, but Miss Linda and I are both really enjoying having him here--we (especially me) don't get to see him all that often throughout the year. The timing couldn't have been better--the virus has pretty much shut off my work for the summer.
We're hoping the memories will stick with him a long time. He doesn't have a father anymore, so he needs a grandpa and he just loves Grandma.
