How do you use the smoker side box on the brinkmann smoke 'n pit. Ours seems to burn the wood fast and doesn't heat up the main grilling chamber. Thanks

I don't have the brinkmann but I do have a similar type. First check out this forum, you might get some better help posting there.

Here are a few things to check....Generally these types of smokers have all sorts of air leaks in them you will need to see if you can close these yourself or use safe material to seal them. Also you probably need some baffling and tuning plates to direct the heat evenly through the chamber.

I don't put just stick logs or splits directly into the chamber but some do. I prefer to use my burn barrel and pre-burn my wood and shovel it in as needed. You also probably need to build some type of cage to better hold and let the ashes fall for your firebox.

I don't use this method anymore but when I first started I would use lump or charcoal and a chimney to start my first batch. Dump those in and add a few small pieces to heat the chamber up and then add more wood, lump, or charcoal as needed. In this case wood was not my primary source of heat.

Let me find some links that my help more :-)

Thanks for the tips. Is there anyway to use it with out making mods to it?

If Google is giving me the right info on your smoker it is pretty much the same as the one I have and if so you have a great grill but....as a smoker probably not. I am on my second "cheap" smoker and both had to be modified to be able to maintain stable and long smokes. About the only think I have seen on these forums not needing to be modified are Langs....but you are talking several, several, several... hundred dollars if not thousands. There are others I just don't remember the names off hand. I could be wrong and if I am someone will stop by and correct me

Just to make sure is this the smoker you have?

Sorry to say is just what you get for sub 200 bucks. But the good thing is the mods are very easy and learning your smoker is pretty fun. Everyone here is very helpful and is always glad to assist when you have questions.

Yes that is the grill. Thanks for your help I will have to look into doing the mods.

No problem and don't get me wrong I love my smoker and have a great time with it. Keep an eye on the post other will come along and help.
