How to adjust the smoke?

I have read in these forums that I should have a thin stream of smoke, not white smoke.  It seems I am getting alot of white smoke with my GSOM smoker.  I am using big chunks of hickory that have been soaked in water.  My damper is all the way closed.  Even when closed, there is a minimum opening.  How can I cut down the smoke?

That does not look that bad. My GOSM has three vents, one each side and top. The only one fully open is the top. Sides adjust to keep wood from burning.  When first starting it up, you may get some white smoke, but it should smooth out. How many chunks are you using? I usually have no more than two.

I've only got a vent on the top.  I have opened it all the way now.  I stuff as many chunks in the wood tray as I can.

There is your problem. Mine is a charcoal to propane conversion so not sure how big this wood tray is, but do not over load it. If you smell wood burning your are smoking. Cut back to a couple of chunks and see how that goes for you. Most newbies problems with too much smoke comes from too much wood.

A lot of the white smoke you see may be steam from soaking you wood. Try it without soaking it.
