Got a Huskey 350, plus a small McCulloch still going strong. Split it up with a DR Electric wood splitter. Alot of the oak chunks end up in the smoker now. My property was an old logging area. Mainly Long Leaf Pine milked for Turpentine. Lots of oaks mixed in along will alot of Lighter Knot left over from the old pines. I use some of the oak for the fireplace, all the pinewood for campfires. I'll be heading up thru Ga. on the way to NC soon. Hope to pick me up some fallen Pecan from someone.

just put a woodstove in this summer. Been cutting wood like crazy. have 30 cords (face) cut so far.

Also cut my own wood for smoking. Have alot of hickory in my woods.

i burn about 3.5-4 cords of wood a year.i just scored the piles pictured above oak and cherry.i got endless cherry and maple and hickory avalible to me.i ussually scrounge wood all year and then take trees that fall naturally from our property.wood is very easy to come by if ya ask people and are willing to do the work.we had remnantes of the last hurricane come thru here and there was wood everywhere for the taking

cabinetmaker from AZ here-alot of off fall for my smokes-have a 18 in. poulan-for clearing brush around here for fire saftey-as far as heating I have a small electric in 2 rooms-do burn alot out in the pit on cool nites with a few cold 1's checking out the milky way.

I burn wood exclusively for heat. I get log length wood delivered for really short money and buck and split for use. Lots of logging in these parts.

I have a Husqvarna 455 Rancher and a Troy Bilt 27 ton splitter with a Honda GSX 5.5hp motor.

Best part is I get a few cherry logs in the mix and I also have cherry on my property. Neat!

When I have a large cherry log I slice it into 2" thick disks and then a hammer blow turns it into chunks. When I am dealing with smaller cherry I just cut off slices and pop them into the smoke pot as such.

And there is nothing better on a sore body than a good hot woodstove cranking!

Cheers!

I'm very lucky. My neighborhood is surrounded by hardwoods and somebody is always taking a tree down for some reason or another and they give me the wood. So I have about 3 seasoned cords in the backyard now ready for this winter. Oak, birch, black walnut, poplar, hickory, maple and cherry. We burn mostly for weekend heating but we also have an outdoor fire pit for fun year round.

I like to look at your pics BGC but i always walk out of the room with an empty feeling in my stomach and a stong desire to fill it with meat and two side dishes of meat. thanks for the info.
