Hi,

I have two air tanks that I would like to join together to form a side box RF smoker.  I'm having trouble figuring out how to make the cut on the the tanks so they fit together.

Here is what I have:

This is what I'm trying to build:

My issue is the part where they join together.  My initial thought was to take a piece of fabric in the shape of a circle and cut that out on the fire box and then the smoker box would fit in there and then I could weld it up and cut the desired size whole between the smoker box and the fire box.  Any ideas?  Please tell me this is easier than I'm making it out to be.

Sounds like you have it figured out, and Yes,it's easier than your making it out to be

Haha thanks!  Be sure to take pictures

Cardboard works good for making templates too. I would cut smaller than what I thought I needed, it's easier to cut again then to have a hole too big and have to try and fill it.

ddlr, morning...... Have you figured it out yet ???? I have an idea or 2 for you to think about....  Dave

Nope; I haven't made any cuts yet.  I'm anxiously waiting for ballagh to post some pictures of his build.

ddlr, Here is a thought.....  Set the tanks in place, one on top of the other in their final location, so to speak.... using a plumb bob, draw lines on both tanks where they "should" mate up.....  Set in place to check the "fit-up" and go from there....  Hope that makes sense....  You might have to have the tanks a foot apart or so to make room for the "bob" and marking the tanks....   Dave
