This holiday season is just getting going. In the weeks ahead, you’ll be putting up decorations, eating way too much food, and shopping until you proverbially (or literally) drop. In the midst of all this, it’s easy to let the stress of the season overtake you and before you know it the month has passed you by and you never really got to celebrate it.

You can celebrate in style this year by throwing your own Christmas party. Invite close friends, family, or the whole neighborhood, but whatever you do, don’t miss out on the excuse to have fun and relax with the people you love this season. Too often we let the opportunity pass us by to celebrate our lives in the moment, perhaps rationalizing that we’ll be happy when we attain that distant, elusive goal of complete happiness.

The following are some ideas to get you started planning your first or fortieth Christmas party.

The cookies & cocoa party
Nothing is more comforting and yummy than a mug of steaming cocoa and a cookie on a chilly winter’s night. You can turn this food into its own buffet line if you so choose, including different add-ins for the hot cocoa and different decorations for the cookies. Create Christmas-themed placards to label each ingredient for a fun, festive flair. Include cute holiday plates, cups, and striped straws for a fun look adults and children alike will enjoy.

The formal appetizer party
If you’re into a more formal type of get-together, choose darker, more rich tones of red and green for your color palette and use sophisticated decorations like garlands and subtle twinkle lights. For refreshment, you might serve green grapes, red grapes, and cheese shaped into the triangular approximation of a layered tree. You can do the same with cherry tomatoes, cauliflower, and broccoli for a veggie Christmas tree.

The pajama party
In addition to the food of the season, there are some great holiday movies that are sure to inspire heart-warming memories and fond reminisces of childhood Christmas activities. Your party might be the opposite spectrum from the formal and be so informal that guests are encouraged to wear their pajamas so they can be comfortable while they curl up with a warm blanket and a few friends to watch some of those classic Christmas movies. Jumpin Jammerz provides a selection of footed adult pajamas and any guess who arrived wearing a pair could be sure to be the best-dressed person there.
