Hello all,
Been lurking for a while and finally jumping in.
Several years back I built a big homemade smoker from a large audio visual metal cabinet. Insulated interior, added chimney cap, and a cast iron propane burner. It held 4 full oven racks. Worked well for lots of cooking. Then glass broke on door and kinda stopped using it.
Last year my wife bought me a Masterbuilt MES 40 from Sam's club. Used about 6 times and a month after a year, it stopped working. MB said heating element, but it looked like new. Replaced it and the temp sensor, still not working. MB now says it probably the controller circuit board but they dont have any and have nonidea when they will get any in. Very frustrated. So now contemplating just converting to a propane burner.
Love all the info from this site. I have built cold smokers from ideas found here and have tried just about everything in the smoker.

welcome, yeah it can be frustrating but there is a lot of smart people here, i'm sure someone will jump in, try posting your problem in a different thread.
