Just joined up, I've been using the site for recipes for a while now. As noted, I live in CO and at times in the last month it's seemed like the whole state is smoking with all the wildfires. I'm currently using a Weber to do all my smoking and it's been working well. At any rate, hello and I look forward to smokin' with you all. Thanks!

Hello August and welcome to SMF from a Colorado Lady Smoker! Glad you found us.

Would you mind updating your profile to include a location please? It helps when answering questions to know what part of the world you are in.

Being west of Colorado Springs, at an altitude of about 8700 ft, things take a bit longer here to get done.

Thanks and good smoking!

I understand about the altitude. I used to live @ 8200 in western Boulder County and it took me a couple of years to figure it out. Now that I'm a front range turkey again it makes things a bit easier. I'm planning on smoking a pre-cooked ham for my mother-in-law in a week or so. I'll be hitting you all up for some info as the time draws near. I've got the basics down I think but rubs and marinades are something I'd like some ideas about. Also, cuts of meat that are best on the smoker is something I'll be asking about in the near future. Have a great Sunday!

Have you been effected by the fires? We're on the west side of Loveland and other than my kids getting the High Park cough, as I like to call it we're thankfully a ways away. I just did some fishing on the Poudre and it's amazing the amount of land that burned. The Poudre was black down in the burn zone, that fishery will be in recovery for years, IMO.

Check out Jeff's newsletter archives on his website

There was one that had a ham in it and I'm thinking it was right around Easter.

Yep I was evacuated for about 5 days, but the fire stayed away from my area - was 1.5 miles (as the crow flies) to the East. It's been 10 yrs since the Hayman Fire and it's still recovering.
