Hi guys, I am new to smoking but really interested in getting started in it. I tried a couple years ago with a Red Brinkman but it seemed pretty difficult because you couldn't manage the temps and there was no way to tell how hot it was getting. I did a couple of pre-cooked hams with brown sugar, honey and pineapple. The turned out really good but as they were already pre-cooked I didn't feel it was a true smoke and eventually gave up on the smoker and gave it to my parents.I live in NW Oklahoma so we summers are usually brutal and winters are close to as bad, though we have been blessed with a mild summer/last winter so that is great. I would love to be able to smoke in the winter time, pretty much year round. I'm not much of a charcoal guy, though I love the taste, I just don't have the patience to tend to the coals. I have a Duo smoker/grill with a firebox on one side and I always use the gas side of the grill. I actually forgot that I had tried to make pulled pork once with the side box and I had a terrible time dealing with the heat/coals. It did actually come out ok but I know it could have been a lot better. My goal is to get a electric smoker and have the luxury of set it and forget it type of smoke. I will be posting on the smoker forums asking for advice there as I'm not sure where to start.Anyways, it's good to meet all of you and enjoy sharing the forum with you all.:-)
