After sucking smoke off of various pits for nearly 50 years it becomes second nature to fire up a lil wood every day to burn some manner of protein. But spreading myself thin? Naw... I call it livin... every moment of one's life must have meaning or it is an opportunity wasted. Family, friends, neighbors, strangers... they all seem to relax and show you who they are when the grill or smoker fires up.

I have been blessed in my life. I have survived war, divorce, the widow maker, loss of friends, loss of family, and loss of my dignity a time or two.

But I have held both of my daughters on the day they were born. I have held the respect of my fellow Marines. I have seen the way my wife looks at me when I have done something right for a change. Yes, I am blessed.

But I find peace sitting in front of a fire pit. It is my time. When all my inner demons settle down and leave me to reflect on the day.

The key is to do the things you love... with the people that you love. When that happens, it's not work. It's livin... and when you are truly livin, there is no such thing as spreading one's self too thin.

Knowing your blessings , is a blessing in it's self . I would agree , you are blessed . I'm guessing you earned it .
