Hello all, my name is Gunner and I am from Washington state. I just discovered this site today while searching a few things on Google and decided to sign up! I just got started with smoking about 2 years ago. A Co worker helped me come up with a base for a good BBQ rub recepie that I have modified over the last few years. I have just been using a large charcoal grill to smoke, building the fire in the back and placing the meat at the front to smoke Ribs, salmon, and chicken. I have enjoyed it and want to purchase my first smoker, preferably charcoal as that is what I'm used to. I would love any recommendations that any of you have for a good starting smoker. Preferably not more than $200 but I can be slightly flexible on that for the right equipment. After I figure out the new smoker using what I am used to cooking I would like to eventually try a pork shoulder. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Gunner, a WSM is a great smoker. I have a 22.5" Weber kettle One Touch Gold, along with 4 other smokers, and this one is still my go-to. I feel it's one of the most versatile, all-around smoker/grills out there, and easy to use as well. I've made a lot of great bbq on it over the years. And this particular one only cost me $25 on Craigslist, which btw, is a great place to look for used smokers and equipment if you're on a budget.
