Hi Everyone,

I'm a long time lurker (about three months now) and thought I should register. I got into smoking after my daughter was home sick from school and we watched all three seasons of BBQ Pitmasters. I have a Ducane gas but added an ECB Gourmet charcoal and ECB Electric, courtesty of Craigslist.

I first used the electric as it was more forgiving for a first timer. I did some chicken thighs with apple wood and it turned out amazing! Since then, I've done ribs, fish and beer can chicken.

I ventured into the charcoal because I wanted to learn more. I jumped into it feet first. I used a mini charcoal grill from Value Vilalge as the firebowl and cinder blocks to control airflow. Bought a 12" meat thermometer and was ready to go. Total cost of mods: $22.

The pork butt is from the charcoal. Probably darker than most people like it but I loved it!

My wife is buying me the Maverick 732 for my birthday. My goal is to build a UDS in the near future. This is addicting!
