Hello from the Mitten!

hey all you out there!  my name is Jerry I am a 3 yr smoker using my chargrill smoker with smoke box.  have done regular brisket, kobe brisket, porkbutts, beef ribs chipotle cherry are my favorite! also make my own bacon cherry somked and peppered.    but what I am really looking for on here is to make a smoker out of a 500 gallon fuel drum that was given to me just today! if anyone has some recommondations shout them out please I have never done this before..... oh yeah. Grand Rapids Michigan is where I am from but originally from El paso Tx.

Hi Jerry, I see the date on your post is from 2012 so 13 years later I don't know if you still frequent this forum, or if you will even see my post here. Curious to know if you are still in Grand Rapids, and if you're still smoking? I am about 45 minutes west of you in Grand Ledge, just west of Lansing. I'm always looking for people from Michigan in these forums because I am trying to find different competitions to enter here in Michigan. Anything that you are aware of in the GR area? I am what you would consider a "back yard" competitor. I've entered a couple large KCBS contests and I had a lot of fun but I cannot compete with some of those guys. They pull into the competition with $100,000 smokers being pulled by $200,000 RVs. I have just a simple 250 gallon reverse flow off-set pulled by a 2017 GMC Sierra :) I know it is a shot in the dark but I hope to hear from you. - Bob
