Hey folks my name is Mitchell

Brand new to smoking food, in fact I don't even have a smoker yet. Ive joined to learn the art of smoking. For $$ reasons I'm looking at starting with a Char Broil BBQ/smoker like the one shown

Anyway I look forward to spending time here and learning.

Hi Mitchell!
welcome1.gif
to SMF!!! We are happy to have you here! Glad to hear your interest in smoking and you have come to the right place to learn. Less than a year ago I had never smoked anything myself and lately I have been turning out some really good stuff I never had dreamed about and it's all because of the people here at SMF. They have taught me so much. Read lots of threads and when you can't find the answer you want ask questions, everyone here is more than willing to share what they know! I hope you get that smoker real soon, summer is here and it's time to get to smoking!!!

I'm not real familiar with it myself but I have seen a lot of people on here have one or one close to it. I thinks it's a real good entry level smoker. It might need a few mods which most smokers do. I'm sure someone with some experience with that model will chime in here. You can also use the search tool at the top to find more threads and info about it.

I just did a quick search and looks like a lot of info about it, check it out:

Hello Mitchell and
welcome1.gif
to SMF - glad to have you here

What's your budget?

Most of the charbroil products I've used and have seen friends use seem to be so cheaply made they're disposable after a season or two.

Edit: Double post somehow...anyway to delete posts completely? Thanks

Thanks for the comments. Budget? Well that's the thing.... Not much... BUT I don't want to waste cash on a poor quality one only to have to replace it so I would rather save up a bit for a better unit if that is what I need to do. The one I have pictured is on sale for $129 right now. I have no problem saving up for a $300 - $400 unit. Just point me in the right direction.

I would like to stick with charcoal/wood
I have cold winter months to worry about.

Hmmm there is a bullet style one at the same store on sale for $59 maybe I'll grab it just to get my feet wet and save up for a nice unit.

That might be a better plan.

From my experience I've seen Char Broil smokers/grills rust out so fast without being in the elements it's amazing.

How about getting a Weber 22.5" kettle and try some smoking in that before dropping a larger amount in a real deal smoker?

Welcome aboard, Mitchell!

You don't have to spend a fortune to produce good BBQ!  You might have to do some mods to get that unit to perfection?

The good folks on this forum will guide you until you are ready to go out on your own.

Good luck and good smoking.

Hey Jeff we drive through Barrie all the time heading up to the trailer!! Thanks for the welcome.

So I went to see this Weber 18" . It has never been used. She bought it for her new place never used it and now she's moving to an apartment. Her loss my gain. Even comes with a cover. Oh and the best part it's not the 18" but the 22.5" Gold and I got it for $80!!!

That sounds like a really good deal, I know there are a lot of people here using WSM's and they love them so they will get you using it like a pro in no time.

OH NO what have I done???????????? It seems the bug BIT me and I haven't even lit a piece of charcoal

I found another unit on Kijiji ( I have to stop looking) This one is a BBQ-Pro Grill dedicated smoker brand new in box never been used....$50...I pick it up Thursday...Shhhhhh don't tell the wife.....Between this and the Weber 22.5 Gold I picked up for $80 I should get the hang of both smokin and charcoal BBQing. Enough talk already,  time to get some Lump!!

I also saw a smaller Kettle style at Lowes last night. Its a Char-Griller Acorn Kamado Kooker. $348...thoughts on that one?

I know the two I own now are probably Cheapo's and wont last too long but that's why I bought them, they were cheap and they can get me started. I would like a big green egg but $1500 is OUT of the question. How is this Kamado? I read 1 review here last night and it seemed pretty positive.

I'm also looking at the Maverick wireless thermometer...........oh what have I gotten myself into
