Hi everyone
My name is Rick and Im new here - I live in Raumati Beach, New Zealand and have really fallen in love with American Style BBQ - although we would always call it smoking where Im from
Kiwis LOVE BBQ - its definitely part of our culture although we probably 'grill' more than 'smoke' here - and many people use gas which IMO is inferior in soooo many ways to charcoal
Ive started watching the old series of Pitmasters and have been loving show
So far on my big barrel smoker/grill I have cooked a 1/2 brisket and pulled pork - I used a combo of Nectarine wood and Manuka (TeaTree) wood for both
I still need practice on the brisket - the flat part came out delicious, but was a tad crumbly with the point part a bit chewy
However - my pulled pork came out AMAZING! Ill only cook a pulled pork this way now...its just too dam amazing compared to an ovenroast
Anyhow - ill be absorbing as much info from this site as I can so I really get the most out of my new pit - its summer here in NZ - so thats BBQ season for everyone here
Although - as far as Im concerned - anytime of the year is BBQ time
Cheers!
Rick
