Hi, my name is Jared, I live in Poteau,OK, and I want to start smoking meats.  I am brand new.  Also, i am looking for a good smoker and some guidance, so thanks in advance everyone.

Welcome to smf glad to have ya!!! There's tons of info here on smokers,take some time and do some reading. Then decide on what type of smoker you want.. electric,propane,charcoal and then see what type and what size fits your needs.

Then ask alot of questions to the fine folks here and you will get alot of good info and tap into alot of experience. there are some great smokers out there.If your new to smokin', I might suggest a MES (Masterbuilt Electric Smoker)

They maintain temps well and would be a great smoker to start with (IMO)

Also for those of you new to smoking,  Get a good Probe Thermometer as we smoke by Temperature NOT TIME.



A good choice for a remote dual probe thermometer is the Maverick ET-732
 
Alright folks, just got my Brinkman Vertical Smoker put together, and as soon as it quits raining, we are going to do our cure and get started, i have made a charcoal basket out of expanded metal and am ready to go.  Will keep you all posted on what is going on!
