My hearing has been getting very bad for many years. About three years ago I went to an audiologist. Through testing we both agreed that I needed hearing aids. The ones she recommended were a little over 5K. I was to tight (stupid) to spend the money. A couple of years ago the FDA said it was OK to purchase OTC hearing aids without a prescription. I got some that now are worth their weight in gold for a little more than 2K. If I had known then what I know now I would have realized passing on the 5K hearing a very bad idea.

So I have on order the ReSound Vivia ... It's the middle one of three different devices... I get a 75 day free trial.. I can try all three within the 75 days... $500 difference between each one starting at $4000... They say it will take a little while to get them dialed in to my specific needs.. We'll see ... I'm kinda excited as I am tired of asking everybody to speak up/repeat themselves...

I am a hearing aid novice. My first try ($1,000.00) failed miserably about a year ago. They're in a drawer around here somewhere. There are hearing aids that are just amplifiers and not really hearing aids. For lack of a better description a large fuzzy picture vs a small fuzzy picture. I thought I would be able to turn the TV and radio down and be able to hear everyone better because of the increased volume on my first set. Volume alone doesn't cut it. It is the clarity of the hearing aids. Volume of my TV, my wife, and my radio stays at the same level with the hearing aids that I have now. It's the clearness and crispness of the sound that I now enjoy.

As an added perk, a lot of the modern hearing aids will pair with a phone so they double as earbuds. One of my stepsons has such a set, but they only work with I phones.

Yes these will do all that... and compatable with some androids as well as all I phones... As to which I own neither at the moment..

Consider loss, damage, repair insurance for hearing aids.
An ole friend of mine was a workaholic around his place. He wore them while working, and sweated so much, so many times he ruined his. Don't think he had any insurance as he has never replaced them.

OK.. Got my new Aids today... They are the Resound Vivia with rechargeable batteries...

WOW... what a difference... When I first put them in and talked, I thought I was yelling...

So for the initial fitment and training... We'll go for a couple of weeks with them set at factory settings just for familiarization... Then we will start tuning them to my specific hearing loss...

Being that my left ear is dead they use just a microphone on that side that transfers the sound to my good ear...

They have Blue Tooth to connect to the phone for adjustments.... But they can also stream the phone, a tv, straight to the hearing aid... They also have what's called Auracast (something new)... That's for public venues... If they offer it you can connect and have everything streamed right to the aids...

So I've been "playing" with them through the phone (wifes)...

I'm happy for you, Keith. Taking phone calls through you hearing aids is just awesome! TV also.
