Lots of good suggestions so far. I would like to weigh in on the salt. Stick to good salts and stay away from the refined iodine table crap. Kosher is ok, sea salt is great, but a mined salt is best. There is some awesome pink Himalayan salt that is shaft mined from the mountains. It was created by pressure from the mountain and it contains lots of good minerals. It costs a little more but you don't need to use as much. The taste is miles apart from Morton's. The more refined the food, the worse it is for you. Sugar is the same.

Anything smoked on the smoker with consideration to the amount of sugar and salt content is much healthier than fried. My cholesterol actually dropped when I started eating smoked meat. No lie.
