The update I have been avoiding…I have been encourage to share…but its hard…so here goes.

Right before Thanksgiving I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. So far its testing as non-metastatic. So it’s the continual monitoring, another biopsy and MRI later this year. See what changes. PSA is steadily rising with increasing velocity. Compared to my daughter this is a cold.

My younger daughter’s (37) cancer has returned 2 times since massive surgery last July, which was followed by chemo. After chemo, more tumors found, there was another surgery right before Christmas. Those tumors are being genetically tested for markers that can be used for directed chemo. About 3 weeks ago, more tumors were found. At least three more procedures are getting scheduled to get those out. They each need a different procedure based on where they are (liver - third time, intestin and abdomen). Genetic testing did show a possible target, the only option is a phase one trial. That’s all we have right now. The previous platinum-based chemo proved ineffective. Praying for the best, bracing for the worst. Its been rough to say the least. The tumor are returning faster after each surgery.

The cancer she has is terminal, there is no cure. Its very rare, like the number of cases in the US is around a hundred. The only treatment is surgery and chemo. Hers is exceptionally aggressive, which is very bad. Survival rates are roughly 100% to 5 years. She has had this over 2 years. After that is a crap shoot, some live more than 10 years, most don’t.

Its been really hard on her and the family. She is married and has a 1 ½ year old baby girl.

Send prayers, more to her than me.

All the prayers are so greatly appreciated. There are not words to thank everyone for the outpouring of support.

I know many have been on a similar road and cant relate on many levels. Its just hard to accept and feel unable to change the course.

Thanks again! Friends and family are top priority. Thank you my friends! It helps to not feel alone, sharing is difficult.

F CANCER - man I really hate that disease.
