Jeanie... its about time i get back atcha for all them morel posts you tantalize us with...

this past weekend, i was walking up to the house from the garden... i have around 10 apple trees in between and i notice this brown area on the lawn, not that i have that great a lawn but anyway it looked like this. can you see it?

so i go and investigate... and holy cow, right there in my yard!!!

picked almost half a gallon baggie in that little area, best part is theres a bunch more coming. it had been dry but we got moisture and if it can warm up a spell they really will take off. best part is i dont have to go but 50 feet to check on them everyday!!!

Wow I would love to have some of those. I am going down to our farm by Wadena, MN this weekend for fishing opener and we usually have Morels growing so I may have to wonder around and see if I can find any. Have fun cooking those up. I have only had them once when I was a kid and I loved them.

Those are morel mushrooms. You eat them (cooked). They are probably the best tasting mushroom around. Here in Ks., there is about a 1 month window when you can find them, so they are pretty desirable.

You eat them fried in butter (of course)...and there is no probably about it.

I hate mushrooms...but a morel does not taste like any other shroom i have had. It tastes more like meat...almost like an earthy tasting steak Its like the steak of the vegetarian world. Not that im a veg...but you get it. Actually they are so good no veg head should be allowed to eat them.

Excuse me...im drooling...gotta go fry up my last morels of the season for lunch!

I have had someone sneaking into my honey hole this year...bastard leaves beer cans so i know hes been there. Obviously nobody with a job because its through the day while i work. That SOB, i would like to catch him...should have put my trail cam up somewhere.

I never seem to find too many at a time. A few years ago, I found a great spot, and found a good sized bag full. Next year I went back, and couldn't find one, was finding nothing until I saw the picked off stems. Made me steaming mad, since it was private property. Guess someone saw me parked there.

Ours dried up a couple weeks ago, I only got a couple meals out of them this year.
