I have this old brick smoker in the backyard, and I recently moved in to the place about a year ago. I will attach pictures from my phone soon. My question is, will this design work? Do I need to add anything or enclose the smoking area? I am completely new to this and looking for help! I would love to get this working and put to use.
Thanks,
Chance

Here are the pics! I would love to get this up and running. Let me know if you have any suggestions, thanks for your time!

Welcome to the forum Chance, glad you joined us. That is a nice backyard BBQ. I'm certainly not the expert you are looking for but I sure someone a lot more knowledgeable will be along soon. Again, welcome.

Welcome to smf, not sure if that's a smoker, looks more like a bbq. Setup. Either way I would fire that puppy up and see what happens.

Thanks for the welcome! Sorry if I completely missed the proper id on this setup, so you thinks it's more of a bbq? If you don't mind another question, do you think I get the charcoal going in the "firebox" and then just slide it over under the grates to bbq? Also wondering if I could cook a pizza on the tiles above...any hints would be appreciated. Thanks, sorry again if I am asking these questions in the wrong forum!

This is a BBQ not a smoker and yes after the coals are going move under the grate to grill or just start the fire under the grill. After a good scrub inside and out and start with a small fire to "season" and burn out and bugs that may be inside.
Once you get a fire going in it you will have to check the top to see if it gets hot enough to cook on.

Good luck and I hope it works out. If so get some pics!

No worries , I'm just guessing but I dont see how you'll do pizza on top unless you figure a way to flip it to melt the cheese🤣 , but give it a shot without flipping and see if it works. Yep as raven said you probably just slide the coals over or ya might even get enough heat coming from the firebox to cook without sliding coals over.

Thank you all for the help! And for tolerating my stupid questions lol.:emoji_laughing:

The bricks seem to be cemented in place, can’t make them budge.
