I was washing up my grinder the other day and stated to wonder how many people hand wash their grinder and how many use the dishwasher.

For me I like doing it by hand because it give me a sense of pride per say. Like keeping a new car clean because your proud of it. Also you dropped a few hundred bucks on it so you want to be able to know its being cared for well.

So do you dishwasher it or hand wash it.

That's a good question I would like to know the answer to as well.
Haven't even used my first grinder I recently got from Kurt but had wondered the best way to properly clean it after using.

Don't own a dishwasher!

Don't think my dishwasher would properly clean it, plus it's so big even broke down. I keep several sizes of round brushes for all the bores and plates holes etc. Makes it a little more tolerable.

Hand wash. A good selection of brushes will help, including those small enough to work on the plate holes. That's tedious work.

Second part is to get on it ASAP after the grind, and bust off the first wave with high pressure cold water. Cold water will easily lift off the meat and fat, getting it down to bare metal pretty fast. Then it's in to hot soapy water to get rid of the fat and grease residue.

Leave a dirty grinder sit around for a while so the meat dries, then set that by putting it in hot water and you will work twice as hard getting those little hardened meat particles scraped off.

Right now my grinder is still new so I'm excited to use it and wash every little piece and really I think I have washed the box once not paying attention.

I don't own a dish washer per say...but the 4 older kids say hand washing is the way to go.

..I would like to bring up a point tho that I don't think is thought about....besides getting off the big chunks of meat a dish washer would bring the grinder to a much higher temp and sterilizing it.
I think I would do both if I had a dish washer.
I also set mine out to air dry for 2 days before packing away. This stops any kind of rust or water that wasn't caught. I had put mine away after one night of air drying and the next time I pulled it out to grind there was some little spots of rust or what would eventually turn in to rust on the neck, even on "stainless" steel.

Actually, this is my method. I clean it by hand then it's into the dishwasher for further attention. The dishwasher has a separate heater that will take the wash/rinse water up to temperature a lot hotter than my poor old hands can handle. Once it's done, I hand dry the parts.

I thought that is why you bleached the parts when washing and then rinse off with warm water . Bleach for sure kills the germs at any temp . Isn't this right ? I don't have a dish washer in my old a$$ house other than my dog Cold Water !

HAND WASH by wife !

The dishwasher has been the downfall to many a marriage:

In the old days, as in my house today, the woman of the family would bend over the sink for an elapsed time of anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. The man of the house would sit at the table with a cup of coffee, and a nearly perfect view of this bending-over action by the little Mrs. In a matter of seconds, this would cause a stir in said man. This would sometimes extend the length of time it takes to wash the dishes, but nobody seemed to mind.
Enter Automatic Dishwasher:
Now the woman of the house bends over less than 10 seconds at a time, loading the dishwasher. By the time the man gets there, she is once again standing upright. After a few attempts to "help Mom load the Dishwasher", the man of the house will move to his recliner to watch TV, and have another evening without any exercise.

The only time our dishwasher gets used is when more than 2 have eaten at our table.
