Grilling on Pickled and Oiled steel

I have a roughly 4'x4' perforated grate made of pickled and oiled steel.  My first thoughts are that it would be perfect to rig above a campfire, firepit,etc. and use to grill food.  My sole concern is if it is safe to do so or if there are contamination risks from the steel whence it gets hot?  Can someone please enlighten me?  It would be a shame to waste it. Thanks!
 
I'd burn it off really good and you should be fine after that.  Pickling is basically an acid wash to remove the scale after hot rolling and then a light coat of oil to keep it from rusting.
