Hi All,

I'm an avid bbq'r and love to use my smoker as much as possible.  I'll be posting pics soon of some of my more successful attempts. I've smoked ribs, shoulder, brisket, cheese, fish and even eggs.  Funny thing that even the "un"successful attempts are still really tasty.

Right now I'm running a CharGriller Smokin' Pro.  I'm also building a smoke generator to retrofit an older Kenmoor electric smoker.  Element went out and I figure it's the perfect size to cold smoke some cheese and fish....maybe a pork belly in my near future as well.

I believe in both fuels - gas is convenient but charcoal/wood is proper.  I'd rather take my time on a Saturday or Sunday and work the grill than do anything else.  My favorite wood lately has been hickory.  I do keep apple and cherry splits on hand as well though and there is nothing more appropriate than red oak for tritip.  I'm fortunate to live in this area where there are apple orchards nearby and more than one hardwood dealer w/in an hour or so drive.

I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you and learning what I can.  I've been getting Jeff's newsletters for a few years now and decided it was time to check in on the forum.  Nice group ya got here.

Welcome!  Hope you join up in the SoCal group and come to our next gathering.  You won't go home hungry!

I'm competing this weekend in Santee.  If you are around on Saturday - all day - come down and check it out.  Should be lots of fun and I'll be cooking up a few hundred lbs of meats for People's Choice.
 
Thanks Scarbelly - profile is updated now.  I joined the SoCal Smokers group yesterday and will check in occasionally to see what's going on.

Meatinc - I'm at a woodworking show all day tomorrow.  Otherwise would have considered a trip out to Santee.  Haven't been out that way in years.  Good luck to you.  Looking forward to hearing the results (would rather taste the food though)....
