I am looking at a Green Mountain Davy Crocket. I am reading that it has hot spots. Have they fixed the issue? How big of a problem is it?

I have no idea since I have no experience with it.
Sit tight and I am sure some users will chime in.

Check by laying plain old sliced bread across the grate.

They all have hot spots. My Pit Boss 1000 is hotter on the left front compared to the rest of the grill. Just get a thermometer that has extra probes for checking pit temps. Inkbird has multiple ones for a good price.

All have hot spots. I have a DC that I carry in the motorhome.. I usually push the plate towards the pellet hopper and put my meat a little to the end towards the chimney
