Hi folks, I'm back! In the throw down poll I commented on how I have been low carbing it and what a jones I had for pizza after viewing the throw down entries. All were so amazing and I got a jones on for pizza immediately!

I left on my Goldwing for Baker City Oregon Friday morning to cover the Hells Canyon Rally for my site. 460 miles and all day all the while knowing that when I hit town I was heading directly to the Baker City cafe for their meat lovers pizza. It's amazing! Well when I got there some BBQ outfit was catering the event next door. They were selling pulled pork sandwiches through the cafe. The waitresses would run out and get the food and bring it into the cafe.

It's tough to pass on BBQ so i figured why not have both.

Well... Plenty of reasons why... All of which I dismissed and ordered. They informed me that they were not doing pizzas during the event do to the volume of people. Good God!

All was not lost. After telling the waitress I had ridden 460 miles and jonesing all the way, she asked the cook if he would. Now this is the part I get to throw up a happy face as he said he would.

My buddy and I split the Pizza and it was better then it was the last time. Or the affects of a two day jones had control of me and my taste buds.

The pulled pork on the other hand was simply the worst I have ever had. The pork wasn't cooked long enough to properly shred. It was served cold and the second bite I took had a large piece of cartilage or gristle.

I don't know the name of the catering business. Even if I did I probably wouldn't say. They had one of the ugliest pits I have ever seen. What they lacked in BBQ flavor or quality they made up for in humor. They had this hog or better stated "Hoglet" dressed up in shades and a bandanna.

I thought I would share the pic.

Rob -- I think its one of the downfalls of spending so much time on this site, and cooking as most of us do.  When you know how to do it right, the BBQ that so many places serve just won't cut it.  We experienced that recently.  There's a local BBQ place we always liked.  Recently we noticed that when we order from there, it's just "not the same."  Actually, it is.  But my family is now accustomed to the Q we cook.  Friday night there was no time to cook, and no Q in the freezer (I need to do something about that!). So we ordered from our old favorite spot.  My seven year old princess stopped after a few bites and told me it was time to get smoking -- "this isn't as good as yours dad" she told me.  Of course, I was beaming.....

Nice pic of the piglet!

Sorry bout your bad bbq wing, I think it's one of the downfalls to mass producing bbq, unless you're willing to put in a lot of time, your quality slips, and unfortunately for the consumer, it's an all to common occurrence..we've been slangin sammies here in my town and there's another bbq outfit here that has been getting by on sub par product for years, they're seeing their numbers slip because of these upstart hooligans (us) who think they should work hours on end to put out great bbq...it's sad really, they charge 5.50 for a PP sandwich with about 1/4 lb of meat on it, we charge 4.00 for a pp sammy with about 1/2 pound of meat on it, and ours is better quality..sucks for them i guess, good for us.

Man I need to ride through your town! After a long day in the saddle I sure could have used a 1/2 lb PP sammie! With the pizza of course.

I have to agree with Jak. About the only places we go out to eat anymore is Greek, Mexican and far east restraunts.  We've went to places that we use to get some good ribs and pulled pork from but not anymore.  We sorta just look at each other like, "We came here for this?" Ugh.  We're spoiled now from this smoker I built... and lovin it!

I never expect a BBQ place to be excellent at all. I do get a good surprize from time to time. That said... This catering outfit was horrible. At least the stuff I was served was. It was late in the day so who knows. What I need is an emoticon that is spewing green vomit... This one will have to do.
