i have some property in upstate NY near lake placid and i have some apple tree that need a good trimming and usually i just burn it in the fire pit but i'm thinking i should save even the small branches to chunk and or chip for cooking in my smoker when i get it

I also have some maple trees that i can do the same with and even a cherry tree or ten lol that i can trim up or cut down so any thoughts or ideas would be great thanks

Would save you a whole lot of money. I age my wood on a palet under a tarp. you can get them cheap or free sometimes.

thanks for the idea Michael and lol jck i have 100 acres and its been in my family for 150 years

If you don't want to use it, I'll take it off your hands free of charge. J/K, I would trim it and then like Mike said, let it age for a while. It's definately going to save you some money.

how long should it sit before using it ?? i can cut some stack it on pallets cover it up and then do it a few months apart so i always have good dry wood for cooking. between maple/cherry and apple i literally have 100s of trees all different sizes to choose from.and if i look hard there are more than likely plenty of other kids as well.

are pine and other types of evergreens good for anything ??

Evergreens are worthless . The ends of the logs will start cracking and spliting when its getting close to useable.

Don;t use the evergreens for cooking. Too much nasty stuff comes out when you burn it. sound slike you have quite the hook up for wood!

with a total knee replacement and a pending spinal fusion i kinda lost track of things here for awhile. but yes i have 100 acres(been in my family for 150 years) of heavily wooded land in the heart of the New York Adirondack Mountains.
