I have always been interested in amateur radio, and am preparing for my Technician Class License.

In the meantime, I got my GMRS License.

Bought a 50w for my use in my house/garage, and a 20w for my car.

Anyone else here on GMRS?

My callsign is: WSHE969

Old school CB guy that used a linear amplifier. Spent a lot of time shooting skip and talking to folks from everywhere.

These days not a chance dealing with govt licensing to use any type of free radio. There's a reason why HAM is dead as a communication medium.

Might be dieing, but definitely not dead.

I don't have a problem paying for a radio license, just as I have no issue paying for a hunting and fishing license.

I've been a licensed amateur radio operator for 40 years. The hobby is not dead licenses do not cost a lot. I recently upgraded from Technician to Extra class no cost. Your first license exam costs $35. The FCC is pretty up to date on software. Not a bad process at all, passed exam on Saturday and got confirmation late Monday afternoon. I passed Tech back when Morse code was required. Now it's no code at all.
I just renewed my interest in the hobby bought a new radio replacing 4 older boat anchors with one light weight one. Just running portable out of the camper this winter. From Florida spoke with Chile, Argentina Spain and Australia. Even worked Crossland repeater aboard the ISS.

If you need any help assistance send me PM here. Call is N8FQQ. I'll be glad to help.
give this website a try. Great study guide using the entire pool of FCC questions.

Thank you so much.

I will definitely contact you when I need assistance.

If you are a vet, most American Legion posts have a Ham Radio Club. It's part of our national defense pillar. Ours is always looking for more moments and is pretty active. They are having a tailgate later this month and doing a foxhunt with some other clubs in our general area.

Whatever. I'm not here for a pissing contest. I bought a license and have a legal call sign.
No pissing contest other than the one you perceived it to be. All I did was point out is you're paying for something that used to be free to all, make of it what you will.Enjoy your license and the time spent using it.

One of the main reasons I got things working again was to be prepared for the unknown. Trust me your cell phone / landline may not work if the right things happen. These are real radios and don't rely on any networks.
