Interesting. I've been around chickens all of my life and didn't know that. Never raised them personally but lots of family and friends do.
How long does the average hen lay until they run out?

Yep. I knew that. Had no idea chickens were the same.

They are. I haven't ever had one completely quit laying though, they usually die of old age first, but the older ones aren't very productive.

No way to find out, had no cameras and live in the country. We sleep with white noise or King Of The Hill on. So didn’t hear anything… and no cams at the time.

My wife would LOSE HER MIND!

We live a little more urban but still kinda in the sticks had a couple of foxes knock out about 6 hens. War was declared. That was a few months ago and my daughter is still in mourning.

We now have two cameras set up and 6 (yes 6!) more ready to go up to maintain the perimeter!

Also I've become significantly more educated about trapping foxes....although I doubt anything will really come of that. I'm not 100% sure its even legal for me to do it.

I keep mine in a run. I ran the fence wire out along the ground about 3 feet out and laid flat rock on top of the fence wire. If anything tries to dig into the run, they have a ways to go and will likely be found out before completing their excavation.
