Yesterday I uncovered the MES started the preheat and putting the maverick probes in her. She hit 225 to 250 and had a hard time stablizing. I thought it is cool out and breezey, so all will be okay. Five hours later, while out on the deck picking up I notice the controller is flasing a two, I push the buttons on the pad [thought they were warm] and nothing, I pulled the plug, let it sit probally five minutes pluged it back in and nothing. I am saying @@@!!!! I have two pork butts and 2 slabs of ribs in it, with a turkey waiting for easter dinner. Read on here and  really couldnt decided anything. Call BP and discussed it with there dept head. MES is gone forever,[unit was app 7 months old]. These things are not very reliable for me. I went old schoold WSM.

I just want everyone to know I thin k that controll unit got really warm.

I had a similar thing happen to me.  My buttons on the smoker just quit working.  I could still get the smoker to function with the remote control though so I was able to finish my meat.  I contacted masterbuillt and they sent me a new control unit right out.  When I pulled the defective one out there was a lot of water in it even with the cover I had on the smoker.  So far so good with the new controler, but I am keeping the smoker inside my garage now so there is no chance of moisture in the controler this time.  It actually fits quite well on top of an old rolling toolbox.  I don't have to bend down to mess with it.
