Some of that depends on the delivery , and if the price went up or down with the next load compared to what's already in the ground .
Not sure how it's done in other areas but gasoline prices change in my area as the market changes, not affected by delivery or loads received. If the markets drop they will slooooooowly drop but if the market goes up those prices will jump like a cat in a bath tub of hot water! With this last drop in crude it finally dropped to $2.31 (and I filled up) but just a little increase in the markets and the next day it was $2.59. The fuel market has a lot of caveats.

So if they have gas in the ground that they paid $4.00 a gallon for , and the market goes to $2.50 a gallon , they sell $4.00 a gallon gas for $2.50 ?
I bet they don't . Maybe it's different now , but when I worked in a full service gas station , you changed that sign as soon as the new load hit the ground .

Maybe it's a factor of when the retailer pays for the load . When I was working there , he paid up front , and he owned what was in the ground . That was a Texaco station .
I remember Amoco paid after the fuel was sold . So I could see the market controlling the pricing .

Yeah I'm familiar with rack pricing from my work in the drilling industry. I was under the impression that retail fluctuations were based on market and that would include daily changes regardless of delivery. It would be hard to keep up with large price swings if your a retailer paying rack prices but I guess they figure it out.

On another note, One of the biggest things nobody notices? Gas is priced by 9/10 of a gallon, not a whole gallon. That is something that's always made me scratch my head. Deceptive marketing by the oil industry.

I always got a kick out of the 9/10 pricing myself. The wife always rounds down and I always round up. Makes for a chuckle in the car. Kinda like a house selling for 299,950.

We see market pricing at work here in the SF Bay Area. The Chevron one mile from my house, and maybe 10 miles from the refinery, is often 30-40 cents more expensive than the Chevron on the coast in Half Moon Bay, which is 55 miles away. The only time I see the Chevron here drop it's price is when the AM/PM across the street gets to be more than 90 cents cheaper. Then the Chevron may drop the price 10 cents or so.

That's pretty good compared to here. Cheapest non-Costco, non-Reservation gas is $3.65 a gallon. That's down almost a dollar since last month.

3.09 to 3.19 here. Someday we may see gas for under 3.00/gal.

Chris

Diesel in Eugene Oregon is down to $4.09 to $4.19.

Some outlying areas with lower city fuel taxes it gets down to something like $3.79.

What we are seeing out here is the effect of taxation on fuel keeping prices high.

No matter low the price of crude gets the taxes remain in place. As I said in an earlier post our governor tried to raise the state tax on fuel from $.40 per gallon to $.80 per gallon. That would have taken total federal, state and local taxation to $1.064 per gallon.

You folks in red state should count your lucky stars....

EDIT....Just saw 3.95 this afternoon (cash).

Cheapest gas i found around the south burns of Minneapolis is $2.59 in lakeville. Diesel is still around $3.50-$3.99. Regular has stations not sams or Costco.

Filled up tonight. $4.75 for 85. Greasy Gavin our used car salesman of a governor thought he would force electric vehicles and doing so thru regulations destroyed the gas industry in our state.

We have "special" gas here so can not import and he has caused many refiners to close down. More are shutting down soon.

They estimate gas will between $10-$12 a gallon in the near future.

Beware who you vote for.

I heard that 2 refineries are closing, one this month and another in April. Valero is so desperate to get out of commiefornia that they are taking a 1.1 billion dollar hit to the books to leave.

I could just say to leave, but as we all know it is not so easy to do that. Reminds me that I have to get out of NY too...lol

When I saw when this thread started I immediately thought of who was the president at the time...

Since you are TDY near San Fransisco I hope you made sure to keep the poop map on your phone. You never know.
I've heard of this. Luckily never been to San Fran...or NYC for that matter. Zero desire to do so. The smell of weed and urine wafting through the air is what people seem to report.

So stupid. But, when a gas station owner tried rounding up his prices to stop this stupidity, people went to his competitor for .1¢ less. We really arent that smart as a people. I would drive out of my way to buy gas from someone who didn't price this way just to protest. Like little lemmings, people drive around and never questions this.

Back in the Stone Age when we got our internet through dialup, I asked my local IP why he didn't just round up from $19.95 to $20 a month. I mean, "come on!...right?". He told me he tried it and lost business. People actually called to complain and switched providers over 5¢.

After going to St. Croix (on business) 40 years ago, I realized the only purpose for the penny was taxes and jerks who charge .99.99 for crap. St. Croix didn't use pennies, everything was priced to the nickel. Finally the nation followed suit and we're getting rid of pennies as of this year, but now that almost everything is digital...they can still ".99.99" us in to stupid oblivion!:emoji_unamused:

Virginia has fallen again. For some reason the idiots here want to tie us to the Green Scam of Cali. Few people want EV's, but the reason they want us restricted to them...well, I better stop there...
