I'm heading to the Ft Worth area in a few days. Will not be there long, but wondered if any of you could recommend a nice Q joint in that area?

Thank you for any info..

There's one in the stockyards, but can't remember the name. But one thing to try, there's a steak house (with saddles at the bar), and they serve a good porterhouse ... and wash it down with a jalapeno margarita. It's right on the street heading into the stockyards.

Thanks Diesel!

Angelo's.... 2533 White Settlement Rd, www.angelosbbq.com or The Railhead BBQ. There are two. One on 120 south Ranch House Rd, the other at 2900 Montgomery St. Check out www.railheadbbq.net

Born and raised in FTW and recommend either one, or both!. When home visiting the parental units, we eat at one or the other.

crewdawg has it nailed.

I prefer the ribs at Railhead, but they are both excellent.

Angelo's is the most famous (rub the bear's paw).

Put "bbq in Ft Worth" in a Google search. Lots of good response there.

adding an idea or two:

You should visit the Stockyards area as already suggested. Touristy, but a nice area to visit and get good food, and it's safe. The Longhorn cattle drive is cliche, but it's worth the watch. Incredable animals, up close.

Be sure to spend at least one evening downtown in Sundance Square. The evenings are very pleasant here now. Good places to eat. Lots of entertainment. Try Risky's BBQ and opt for a table outside in the "alley" out back. Also safe area.

Mckenzies on Riverside Dr. It's not a big chain bbq place. It's a little hole in the wall and all their bbq is cooked on a mobile pit parked out front. I dont care for the chain restaurants. I like the little maw and paw joints. You wont be disappointed.

Thank you all for the info! I appreciate it.

jerry, those longhorns are beautiful animals....I keep a few in my pasture from time to time for a friend. Sometimes they play heck with the other cattle. They get all the room they need at the feed bunks. lol

Thanks again folks...y'all are awesome!

You can "ride" a longhorn in the Stockyards area. There are usually 2 guys down there on the sidewalk with their saddled-up animals. You get someone to take your picture on the longhorn, and just give the owner a tip. ;^)

The Texas Monthly just released the top 50 BBQ joints in Texas. The only one that made the list from Ft. Worth is "Cousin's Barbecue". I have never been there, but I know I would have to check out the jalapeño margaritas. Just remember that the Stockyards are on the North side of town. Keep your doors locked while in route please.

I can just imagine drinking a couple of Diesel's jalapeno margaritas and riding jerry's longhorn cattle.......this trip is starting to sound good.

LOL....I like y'all too much...after viewing pics of me drinking jalapeno margaritas on a longhorn, you might decide to run me off.

OH YEA, I forgot about Cousins. I agree......excellent BBQ!!! I've been there a few times. It's a hole in the wall too. I also agree to keep your doors locked while in North side, ESPECIALLY at night!!

Thanks for the info low! I appreciate the warnings about keeping my doors locked too. I'll sure remember to do that.

I'm starting to look forward to this trip now.....

The Stockyards area, which is basically along Exchange Street and Main is safe during the day (my opinion). I'd take normal precautions at night, and go with at least one friend. It's a tourist destination, so they have to keep things relatively safe. The area around it and between it and downtown is an older area, just be normally careful in route, stay on Main St. We go there all the time.

Billy Bob's Texas is a couple blocks north of Exchange. (huge honky tonk).

Ask around for Joe T. Garcia's Mexican Food. It's about 3 blocks south of Exchange, a block east of Main, and is a FW institution, world famous. Eat on the new patio, it's great in the evening.

I personally would rather see pics of you, the margarita drink, and the mechanical bull .............. ;^)

Thank you for the info Jerry....I really appreciate it!
I will be there long enough to hit one place...wish I had more time.

Heck, I might have to get some pics, then send them out with my Christmas cards next December.
