I've been seeing a lot of Fryer post the last few days , a hint toward safety...

After your bird (or whatever you want to fry ) is ready to go in the oil,do the safe thing and turn the gas flow   off ,then lower slowly into the oil. I make a practice of this since I first got my Fryres , it deters any chance of fire , once in and settled( only a moment or so), then re-light the Propane.

Grease fires spread when water hits and the fire goes everywhere (oil and water don't mix).

I start my cooking at 375*f to 400*f, then after the shutdown ,introduction to the oil and the time it needs to settel down, my heat has dropped some, and the cooler meat will lower it more as it begins it's rise in temp., then I'll re-light the fuel and adjust it to 350*f for the cook.

Just want all to have a safe Holiday, be safe,be happy and enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Also, add the Men and Women overseas in your Prayers for without them...

Great advise................

That's a great tip but let's remember the goal is to not have the oil overflow the pot!

A tip from Frank Davis is to place the turkey and basket into the pot.  Fill the pot with water until the turkey is submerged, measuring the amount of water as you go. This is the amount of oil you will need to fry the turkey.

Remove the bird, drain and dry both the pot and the bird, fill the pot with the amount of oil you just determined.

Another tip is to wear a long sleeve shirt and heavy, heat resistant gloves   You do this so you can gently lower the bird into the pot,  it may take a minute or two and your unprotected arm will be getting a steam bath.  My BIL and I have always just used a strong pole or piece of pipe to lower the bird.  That way you are far enough away that if you do get a flare up and fire nobody gets hot grease splashed on them.

Fried turkeys are great eating but you need to be careful

Remember breast side down and don't grab the drumstick to take the bird out of the hot oil  (they'll break off and well you can imagine what happens next).
