Yes it does. All wood does. Doesn't matter if it's for a fireplace, stove or smoker. Green wood will not burn correctly and if you do manage to set it on fire will give off an abundance of creosote and dirty smoke

What Jake said. Green wood only benefits the tree while it's alive. Wood for smoking, fireplaces, etc. needs to be dried.
